Fireplace Facelift

Updating old brass fireplace doors with black spray paint.

Fireplaces are one of my favorite spaces in a home. They are cozy and are and are a great space to personalize. While I don't have a fireplace in my home, a lovely friend of mine does and she was kind enough to let me help her with it. The first thing that came to mind when thinking of ways to make this space current was to get rid of the brass. No amount decorating was going to disguise those brass doors. So with a little time and some spray paint I was able to transform basic and dated to something more clean and modern. Follow the steps below if you want to take on this DIY project yourself and let me know how it goes!

Collect your supplies: 1.)Cleaner (I used Windex) 2.)Deglosser 3.)A rag 4.)Paper 5.)Painters tape 6.)Scissors 7.)High heat spray paint 8.)A razor blade to clean up any spray paint on the glass

Once you have cleaned all the dust and dirt off wipe down with the deglosser.

Use the scissors to cut your paper and tape them to the glass. This was by far the hardest part for me. Making sure the tape was lined up and not covering any metal was quite the task! Now make sure your in a well ventilated area and begin spraying. I probably did about 6-8 coats of paint. I let it dry outside for a couple hours before bringing it in the garage overnight. The next morning I used a razor blade to remove any paint that had gotten on the glass.

Once the spray paint is dry (we let it dry overnight) you can put the doors back. I really love how one simple change can really make such a big impact on a little space!
