Mini Tree DIY

3 weeks until Christmas. How does that make you feel? Stressed or excited? I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm in total holiday mode but the craziness of the holidays has just begun! Before I know it my kitchen will be a mess with all the baking that comes along with this season and the gifts... I should get on that!

So something a little less stressful this month is the December DIY Challange hosted by Terrie with Decorate and more with Tip. She found a mini tree at the Dollar Tree and thought it would be fun to see what we all come up with! Super easy, buy the tree and do something with it. I have had these large pieces of wood sitting in my garage for a while now and I thought this would be the perfect project to use them. My plan was to use them for votives but add a little tree and it becomes winter decor!

The first thing I did was paint the wood all white. I just used left over white primer paint. After it dried I sanded it down a bit to make sure it felt smooth. Next I used a 1.5" drill bit to drill the holes for my battery operated votives. Then using a .5" drill bit I drilled the hole for the tree. I set the votives in place and used to glue to hold the tree in it's spot. I had a few pine cones left over from another project and glued them under the tree to add a little extra something. After that i was finished! You could add lights, ornaments or ribbon to the tree but I kind of like the simplicity of it.

Now check out what these other talented bloggers came up with! Next up is Tammy. She made a really cute advent tree. This would be so fun for kids!
